Margaret Oglesby Allison, Peggy to her friends, died in Dallas on March 24. Born in Dallas on November 6, 1939, she was the daughter of Harry L. Seay, Jr., and Nancy Boggess Seay. She is survived by her sons John and Edward Oglesby and their families and by her husband Richard, all of whom cherished her. Richard and Peggy were married in 1997, having met once in 1967. Their marriage was joyful and fun filled with traveling adventures, wonderful friends and family, and hilarious banter. Peggy was someone of great intelligence, a shrewd and successful investor who also excelled in mathematics at Tulsa’s Holland Hall, Smith College, SMU, and Lucy Cavendish College at the University of Cambridge. In 1968 Peggy married Enslie “Bud” O. Oglesby, Jr., a gifted, immensely successful architect who was much-loved. Together with their sons John and Edward, Peggy and Bud had a wonderful life together until his untimely death in 1993.
Peggy was devoted not only to her family but to her community, as a trustee of Smith College, a trustee of the Episcopal School of Dallas, a member of the Dallas Charter 100, a President of The Science Place at Fair Park, a Board Member of the Museum of Nature and Science, and the Board Chairman during the planning and construction of the Perot Museum of Science. She, like her mother, served as a President of the Junior League of Dallas and was a member of its endowment committee for over 40 years. She was also significantly involved in such activities as being a puzzle writer for D Magazine, a member of the ENIGMA puzzling team, a President of the Dallas Shakespeare Club, and a President of the Hesitation Club. Her participation and leadership throughout her life have heartened so many in ways both known and unknown.
Peggy lived her life joyfully, with empathy, intelligence, humor, and energy. Her friends used terms like “Total Rock Star… incredible talent… amazing lady… extremely kind… fabulous person… wonderful friend and mother… sharp wit… wonderful and brilliant lady… magnificent person… extraordinary and superior in every way… always welcoming… charming… a favorite friend… with an immense love of family… and she was one helluva human being!” We hope she continues to inspire people with the way she lived her life. Peggy's departure was shockingly sudden. All who knew her will miss her.
A memorial service will be held at Highland Park Presbyterian Church at 1:00pm on Friday, April 11.
