Margaret Sue Attaway (Story) died peacefully on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, in Dallas, Texas, at the age of 84.
She was born on July 14, 1940, in McKinney, Texas to Jim and Marie Story. Margaret graduated from South Oak Cliff High School, attended college at Southern Methodist University and received her teacher’s certification from the University of North Texas.
Margaret’s passion for teaching led to a career in education, teaching Special Education at Duncanville High School for over 20 years. When not teaching, and before audio books, Margaret often volunteered by reading to the blind. Profoundly dedicated to those in need, her perfect teaching attendance was broken only after a serious cancer diagnosis.
She is preceded in death by her father and mother; her husband, Joe Pat Attaway; her sister, Judy Stiles and nephew, Regen Stiles. Margaret is survived by her daughter, Jana Attaway-Swenke; her son-in-law, Ken Swenke; her daughter, Cara Attaway Whitaker; her granddaughter, Story Blake Whitaker; her brother-in-law, Michael Stiles; her nephews, Adam and Alex Stiles and their families.
Margaret was a sweet soul and is profoundly missed.
The family would like to recognize the deep professionalism of the medical team at Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital. Special gratitude for her nurse, Dieu, who demonstrated astonishing skill, care and empathy.
Visitation will be held at 1:00PM with the funeral service immediately following at 2:00PM on Sunday, March 16, 2025, at Sparkman / Hillcrest Funeral Home, 7405 W. Northwest Highway, Dallas, Texas 75225, followed by internment at Sparkman / Hillcrest Memorial Park, Fireman’s Rest.
