The sweet, gentle spirit of Margaret Hamzy is free, having broken the bonds of dementia that took her memory and ability to speak. Margaret passed away peacefully in her sleep during the early morning hours of January 22, 2012 at the age of 94. She was born on November 17, 1917 and was raised on a dairy farm in Jacksboro, Texas. She moved to Dallas as a young adult and lived in a boarding house on Gaston Avenue where she met her husband-to-be, Leonard Hamzy. They joined Gaston Avenue Baptist church and were married in 1943 by Dr. Marshall Craig. They remained faithful members throughout their lives. Margaret’s husband of 68 years, Leonard Hamzy, predeceased her only 9 months ago, on April 22, 2011. She is also predeceased by her parents, 3 brothers a sister and a granddaughter. Margaret is survived by her three daughters and their husbands, Susan and Tom Kovan, Carol Ann and David Ramsour and Kathy and Paul Hargrave, eight grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her precious sister, Marinelle Knight, of Del Ray Beach, Florida.
Memorial Service will be held at Gaston Oaks Baptist Church at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, followed by a reception in the Fellowship Hall. Visitation will be held Tuesday evening from 6-8 p.m. at the funeral home. Private Entombment prior to the service on Wednesday.
