

Margaret will be fondly remembered for her zest for life and her vivacious personality. She loved to dance and exercised daily. Her lively spirit brought joy to many. She will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
Margaret met the love of her life Henry “Hank” Hermann in 1962 at the University of North Texas and they enjoyed a happy marriage of almost 59 years. Margaret loved Hank dearly and they were constant companions. After college, Margaret taught high school students the lost art of shorthand and typing while Hank was pursuing his MBA. Margaret retired soon after to become a loving mother and homemaker to her daughters, Catherine and Kelly, and to later become a doting grandmother, “Maggie” to her three grandchildren, Benjamin, Camille, and Henry. She ultimately advanced her education by earning a Master of Science degree In Economics.
Margaret was devoted to the Lord and attended Mass every morning at Christ the King Catholic Church for over twenty-five years. She had an active prayer life and possessed unwavering faith in all of God’s promises. A long-term member of the Christ the King Altar Society, she held many positions including President in 2006-2007. She was a founding member of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul Conference at Christ the King. She and Hank hosted the original conference meetings in their home for over a year. She was a devoted helper alongside her husband Hank with many exciting opportunities to serve the community with St. Vincent de Paul activities, including helping Katrina victims relocate to Dallas and the founding of the St. Vincent de Paul Pharmacy.
Margaret is preceded by her parents James Edward and Kenneth Nell McDermott who she loved dearly and remembered every day. She is survived by her husband Hank Hermann, daughters Catherine Gravel (Michael Gravel) and Kelly Hermann, and grandchildren Henry Hermann, Benjamin Gravel, and Camille Gravel. One of six children, she is also survived by three sisters, Sharon McDermott, Evelyn Burk, Janet Oliver, and two brothers, David McDermott and James Michael McDermott.

A Vigil Service and visitation will be held at Sparkman Hillcrest Funeral Home from 6 to 9 pm on Wednesday, February 12. The funeral Mass will be held at Christ the King Catholic Church, 8017 Preston Road, Dallas, at noon on Thursday, February 13, followed by interment at Calvary Hill Cemetery, 3235 Lombardy Lane, Dallas.
