Margia Fay Thurmond

Margia Fay is preceeded in death by her Mother and Father as well as her sisters Georgia Lee Wilkerson and Husband, Ruby Sewell and Husband and her beloved Husband Donald Thurmond.

She is survived by Daughters Sue Ann Beckner, Cindy Anderson and husband Scott Anderson. Two precious Granddaughters, Claire Beckner and Kimberly Beckner and many loved nieces and nephews.

Margia worked for Southwestern Bell in her early adult years… but what she excelled at was being a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and homemaker. She was a wonderful cook, made Sue and Cindy’s clothes, especially Sunday dresses. She also could whip up a Barbie wardrobe for the girls. We always teased her that she was the “June Clever” in real life – and she was. Her family and their well-being was her passion. Her house was always emaculate, there was always a lot of love and laughter, good food and fun times at home. She spoiled Daddy rotten after they were empty nesters. They enjoyed each other so much and were married June 12, 1953 in Oklahoma City OK.

Margia and Don were avid Cowboy fans especially during the Landry years and enjoyed season tickets from the Cotton Bowl to Texas Stadium. Sue and Cindy remember having to draw straws for who had to sit by Mom – she would get a tad excited during the game and whoever was sitting next to her would receive the brunt of all the excitement. She loved sports of any kind and watched college basketball anytime it was on.

She loved the Lord and has always been an active member of her church. She became a member of First Baptist Church of Oak Cliff, now The Oaks, around 1962. She had her family in church, rain or shine, whenever the doors were open. Her faith was and will always be the backbone of our family.

Growing up, we shared a ton of adventures by getting to go with Mom and Dad on lots of summertime trips to Colorado.
