Margie J. McIntyre passed away peacefully Friday, November 23, 2018 at the age of 93. She was born in Vicksburg, Mississippi on October 15, 1925 to Chestine Graham McIntyre and George Otho McIntyre and raised in St. Louis, Missouri.
Margie is survived by 1 niece, Becky Wells (John), 2 nephews Paul Aschbacher Jr. (Carolyn) & Jeffrey Aschbacher (Corina), 4 great nephews, 2 great nieces & 8 great-great nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, her sister, Joanie Aschbacher and her brother-in-law, Paul Aschbacher Sr.
Margie received her Bachelor of Arts in Drama & Speech graduating Cum Laude from Trinity University in San Antonio. She also held a Master of Arts in Fine Arts from University of Houston. The majority of her teaching career was for Houston ISD at Stephen F. Austin High School where she produced plays and musicals. Many of her students have gone on to pursue careers in film, television, and stage performers, writers and producers.
Before her extensive career in education, she held a number of positions in the business world. Among them were with John Hay Whitney Co. in New York City, Tenneco and Exxon Cos. in Houston, University of St. Thomas Art Department, Baylor University School of Medicine. It was her years in education that she cherished the most.
Margie was a resident of Houston for 60 years and was quite active in her community. She sang with both Houston Grand Opera and Theatre under the Stars in their formative years. She was a founding and charter member of Space City Ski Club in 1964 and remained active for years. Margie volunteered for Houston Grand Operand Guild, Houston Symphony, Houston Ballet and the Museums of Natural Science and Fine Arts.
She was an active member of St. Michael Catholic Church in Houston where she served as a Lector and Eucharistic Minister. Socialable Seniors was an organization at St. Michael’s that she participated in and loved dearly.
Margie loved life, people and traveling (especially on cruises) to see the world.
She will be missed by her family and friends.
A Memorial Mass will be held on Wednesday, December 12, 2018 at 10:00 a.m. St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, 1801 Sage Rd. Houston, TX 77056
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Lung Association or to a university of choice for educational scholarships.
