Marguerite Cyril (Collister) Hosley

Marguerite Cyril (Collister) Hosley, 79, passed away peacefully in Dallas, Texas, on July 17, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She leaves behind a legacy of devoted service to the communities she loved, enduring friendships, and unwavering faith in the importance of family.

Cyril was born on July 29, 1946, in Houston, Texas, to Frederick Willard Collister and Marguerite Estella (Arisman) Collister. While attending high school in Houston, Cyril met the love of her life, Richard Allyn Hosley II (“Rick”). Their story began as teenagers and continued for more than six decades. They were married on July 18, 1968, in Hawaii while Rick was on leave from his service in Vietnam with the U.S. Marine Corps. Together, they built a marriage defined by love, partnership, and shared commitment to family and community.

Cyril was a proud graduate of the University of Houston, where she became a member of Chi Omega sorority. Throughout her life, she cherished her friendships with her Chi Omega sisters. Cyril pursued post graduate studies at Texas A&M University and became a fan of all things maroon and white. She and Rick were devoted supporters of the university, proudly contributing to its future and spending countless weekends attending Aggie football and baseball games as decades-long season ticket holders.

Before children, Cyril taught high school, including bookkeeping and penmanship. People envied Cyril’s handwriting, so beautifully consistent there could have been a font named for her. After having children, she embraced with pride her role as a mother and CEO of the Hosley household, creating a warm and loving home for her family, as well as all the other children who loved being at her house.

Cyril’s commitment to service extended far beyond her household, and she answered a calling to contribute to her community through public service and volunteer leadership. Cyril served nine years on the Sugar Land City Council, including four years as Mayor Pro Tem. During a period of remarkable growth for the city, she helped shape Sugar Land's future and played an instrumental role in the development of Sugar Land Town Square, helping create what would become the heart of the community.

Her passion for history and preservation was rooted in cherished childhood experiences. Cyril spent many happy days at the New Orleans home of her beloved Aunt Cyril after whom she was named. She also spent significant time at Bayou Bend, the historic Houston home of renowned Texas philanthropist Ima Hogg. Cyril's grandmother served as Bayou Bend's head housekeeper and cook and lived on the property from the 1930s until Bayou Bend's transition to a museum in 1966. Cyril often shared treasured memories of exploring the grounds and playing the piano for "Miss Ima." Her passion for Christmas was planted at Bayou Bend, which she described as magical, and grew her entire life, evidenced by her collection of Santa Clauses and a pet cat that shared a moniker with the season.

In 1994, Cyril became a docent at Bayou Bend and would go on to serve the organization for more than 30 years. Visitors fortunate enough to get tours led by Cyril were treated to her personal memories as well as the thorough history. Cyril’s dedication to the museum culminated in her service as Chair of the Bayou Bend Docents, a role she held with great pride. Through her efforts, Cyril helped preserve and share an important part of Texas history for future generations.

Service to others was a defining characteristic of Cyril's life. Over the years, she held numerous leadership positions across civic and charitable organizations, including as President of the American Cancer Society League, Board Director of the Sugar Land Cultural Arts Foundation, President of the Sweetwater Women's Association, and Board President for the Fort Bend Boys Choir. Whether serving on boards, organizing events, mentoring volunteers, or supporting causes close to her heart, Cyril brought enthusiasm, organization, and exceptional leadership to every endeavor.

In 2019, Cyril and Rick made the difficult decision to leave Houston and move to Dallas to be closer to their children and grandchildren. While she deeply missed the many friendships she had cultivated over decades in Sugar Land and Houston, she quickly embraced her new community and formed lasting friendships in Dallas. She became an active member of the Preston Hollow Women's Club, where she served in numerous leadership roles, including as President.

Cyril was a loving and generous woman who made friends easily because people felt how much value she put into her relationships. She was also a fierce and passionate advocate for the causes and principles she believed in, guided by an unrelenting sense of fairness and justice. When she saw a wrong that needed to be righted, she faced it with fervor and conviction, never backing down from a challenge. She showed this same grit and determination in her battles with cancer, defeating lymphoma more than a decade ago.

Above all, Cyril was devoted to her family. Nothing brought her greater joy than being a mother to her children and “Mimi” to her grandchildren—celebrating their accomplishments, supporting them through life's challenges, and creating memories that will be treasured for generations.

Cyril’s life was defined by service, leadership, and a profound love for family and friends. She leaves behind generations of people who were made better by knowing her. Cyril is preceded in death by her parents, Marguerite and Frederick Collister, and brother, Frederick Jr. (“Skippy”), who passed before she was born. Cyril is survived by her devoted husband, Rick, and her three children: Richard A. Hosley III and wife, Alice, of Bentonville, AR; Sean F. Hosley and wife, Kelly, of Richardson, TX; Michelle Hosley Bedient and husband, Eric, of Frisco, TX. She also leaves six brokenhearted grandchildren who adored her: Ben Bedient, Quinn Hosley, Ford Hosley, Lexi Bedient, Emelyn Hosley, and August Hosley. Also left to mourn her absence are her sister, Carol Collister McKeown, and an extended family of nieces and a nephew, in-laws, and cousins whom she loved.

Cyril’s family would like to acknowledge and thank so many for the care she received during her multiple battles against cancer, including the physicians and staff of Texas Oncology, Texas Health Presbyterian Dallas, and M.D. Anderson in Houston.

A visitation will be held Saturday, August 15, 2026, at 1:00 pm followed by a memorial service at 2:00 pm at University Park United Methodist Church, located at 4024 Caruth Blvd., Dallas, Texas 75225. A reception will follow at the church. The burial service will be held for family only at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery on Monday, August 17, 2026.
