Maria Teresa Longoria passed away on July 26, 2021. She was born November 23, 1932 in Mission, Texas, to Procopio Longoria and Sofia Garza. She was the baby of five children. There were two boys and three girls. Teresa resided in Dallas from 1976 until 2013 when she moved into the homes of her daughters, Gilda Velasco and Marinela Castano. She was a graduate of the University of Texas at Pan-American, receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree. She also obtained a Master of Science from Chicago State University. In addition, Teresa completed additional graduate work towards her Doctoral Certification at East Texas State University (Texas A&M Extension). Her professional experience was in public schools as an educator. After over 35 years in the public sector, she continued working in social services with the elderly in various agencies including Head Start programs, Data Collection & Research and Westat Research Company.
Teresa was an active member of both St. Pius X and St. Phillip the Apostle Catholic churches. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister (Cora Closner) and two brothers (Juan Longoria and Quirino Longoria). She is survived by her sister: Dolores Longoria Garcia, sons and daughters: Leonel Cantu and spouse, Kimberly; Michael Rene Cantu and spouse, Mercedes; Hector David Cantu and spouse, Linda; Gilda Anna Velasco and spouse, Ralph; and Marinela Castano and spouse, Greg. Grandchildren: Christina, Lisa, Stephanie, Rosario, Rosanna, Samantha, Ralph Jr., Maya, Sofia, Max, Anthony, Gabriel, and Roy. Great grandchildren: Alaina, Teagan, Avery, Zachary, Sierra, Savannah, Katalina, Thomas, Kyndall, Kreu, Cesar, Victoria, Natalie, and Joseph.
