Maria E. Matos, 89, passed away June 29, 2024 in Dallas, Texas. She was born September 19, 1934 in Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico to Paulo Colon and Georgina Matos. She was raised in Cabo Rojo, Puerto Rico as well.
In her spare time, Maria enjoyed sewing, cooking, and spending time with her large extended family. She was considered by others to be a green thumb due to her love of planting many beautifully healthy plants throughout the inside of her home along with the outdoor areas as well.
She enjoyed watching movies, listening to music, and she was so funny when we least expected it. She loved her animals and cared for them tenderly. Maria Matos helped the unfortunate on many occasions by feeding them and giving them a roof over their heads. Sadly, she was more limited when she had a stroke, but maintained her sense of humor and continued to make us laugh and smile.
Her friends and family will always remember her as a person of intelligence and wisdom with a strong personality and will to achieve. She had such a kind heart and loved everyone that came in contact with her. We called her mommy and the title fit her well. She was the matriarch of her extended family which reached back four generations.
Maria Matos was an entrepreneur in her own right. She learned with a limited education in reading and writing. She owned four houses in New York City and three in Texas. She raised her family on her own and they became successful, hard working individuals.
