

Marian was born in Dayton, Ohio to parents Grover Cleveland Ring and Pearl Stanley Ring, the youngest of three daughters. Her sisters Virginia, Patricia and parents all predecease her.
After graduation Marian was employed by the National Cash Register Company in Dayton. She was their first female corporate headquarters receptionist when she met Ted Maxwell who was stationed at Wright Patterson AFB. After Ted was transferred to Kelly AFB in San Antonio, Marian soon followed and they were married there in St. Mark’s Episcopal Church.
Marian volunteered as a Gray Lady at Brooke Hospital before becoming a stay-at-home mom with two daughters. The next years she was busy packing school lunches, chauffeuring her girls to school and activities, and serving as an officer of the PTA as well as a Girl Scout troop leader.
Marian and Ted were early members of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in San Antonio where Ted taught
Sunday school and Marian sang in the choir. She was also a long-time dedicated volunteer at the church auxiliary’s Green Door Thrift Shop.
When Ted retired in 1973, they began travels that would take them around the world many times but always back home to their beloved San Antonio. Their summers were spent in many places with cooler weather – Ouray, Colorado (always Marian’s favorite), the Irish Coast, San Francisco and Huntington Beach, California.
In 2006 Ted and Marian moved to Dallas to be close to family. They celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary in March 2015 before Ted passed away (99 years young) in November.
Marian was a dedicated shopper so always a fashion plate with a particular fondness for shoes and jewelry. She worked the daily crossword, was an avid reader favoring the newspaper and biographies, and always had a Word Search puzzle book nearby. Marian was an admitted Chocoholic, Snoopy’s biggest fan and a committed bird watcher. She was a lover of words and wrote sometimes melancholy but more often sassy poetry. As an adult, her adventurous side found her learning to swim, play the piano and ride horseback.
Marian is survived by daughters Cynthia (Bob) and Susan, son-in-law Tony Cantu, grandchildren Naomi, Abbi (Adam), J.R. and great grandchildren Aiden, Arin, Austin and Ava.
She was blessed to have many caring people looking after her and there is a special thank-you to David Morales for loving Marian and trying his best to keep her hair red.
Also, the Memory Care staff at Walnut Place and Freedom Hospice who helped Marian make it to her 102th birthday and beyond.
