Marianna Theresa Mauro Johnson

Marianna Theresa Johnson (Mauro) was born on February 22, 1918 in Des Moines, Iowa to Pasquale Mauro & Maria Mellace Mauro. She was the youngest, with three older brothers, who grew up in the Italian neighborhood of Des Moines. “Marion”, as she was called, attended school up through the 10th grade. She had to leave school in order to help provide for the family. She worked at the family grocery store to help her brothers get their education. Marion loved big band music, and enjoyed reading. She was a faithful woman, raised Roman Catholic.

Marion married Richard L. Johnson in February of 1941. They raised four children together. She will be missed dearly by her family.

On Saturday, February 27, 2016, Marianna T. Johnson was called Home. She was greeted in Heaven by her husband of 61 years, Richard Johnson (passed in 2002); her parents, Pasquale & Maria Mauro, and her siblings.

Her life and legacy will continue to be remembered and celebrated by her children: Sandra May of Dallas; Joanne Burnett & husband Michael Weichert of Caldwell; Michael Johnson & wife Catherine of Richardson & Steven Johnson of St. Louis, MO; 7 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, one niece, nephews and close friends.
