

Dr. Marilyn Marcell Walls was born December 19, 1956, in Idabel, Oklahoma to Velma M. (Scales) Hopkins (deceased) and Edward Lee Rogers (deceased). Dr. Walls transitioned into eternity on the evening of Wednesday, October 22, 2025, in her home surrounded by family.
Marilyn grew up in a Christian home and was an active member of Westside First Baptist Church in Idabel, Oklahoma. She was an active member of the choir and other activities and programs. Through the influence of her mother and grandmother, Marilyn accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at the youthful age of 11. A passage dear to her: John 3:16, “For God so love the world he gave his only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in him should have everlasting life” was very comforting to her. Believing that Jesus Christ was God’s son and acknowledging Jesus as Lord assured her eternal life in heaven and received the gifts of the Holy Spirit.
Marilyn graduated from Idabel Gray High School 1975, where she was crowned the First Black Football Queen. As a young adult, Dr. Walls was united in matrimony to Billy Eugene Walls (deceased), however, she has been divorced for decades.
Marilyn read the bible from cover to cover several times and continued to grow in the grace in the knowledge of our Lord, Jesus Christ. Marilyn worshipped and was a faithful servant at Oak Cliff Bible Fellowship (OCBF) Church under Pastor Dr. Anthony T. Evans, currently under the leadership of Pastor Jonathan B. Evans. Dr. Walls served as a Deaconess since 2007. In 2016, Dr. Walls was commissioned as a minister. She served on the Leadership and Development Team as well as serving in the Reconciliation Ministry. Dr. Walls taught Conflict Resolution classes at the OCBF Bible Institute. Dr. Walls was also an active member of the OCBF choir. Marilyn was a member of KNON Radio Broadcast “One Victory Voice” where she delivered the Word of God on Sunday afternoon. Marilyn has functioned as a keynote speaker at several women’s conferences throughout the metroplex. Additionally, serving in the community, she coordinated conflict resolution classes, domestic violence, and youth rally conferences.
In December 2014, Marilyn obtained a Golden Rule International Award, which appointed her as Goodwill Ambassador for the Interfaith Peace Building Initiative.
Dr. Walls chose the path of Health Care, serving as a Registered Nurse in the Veterans Affairs Health Care systems. Marilyn continued on to retire from the Office of Inspector General, Office of Healthcare Inspections. In 1995, Marilyn was selected and recognized as DFW Great 100 Nurses.
Marilyn achieved a Bachelor of Science degree in Nursing from Dallas Baptist University (College), A Master of Science in Human Relations and Business from Amberton University, and a Doctor of Theology from Thomas Brown Christian College. Constantly growing, Marilyn served in the United States Navy Reserved as II Lieutenant of the Nurses Corp.
Because of the glorious grace of God, Dr. Walls traveled around the globe seeing various parts of the world touring Europe, South Africa, Israel, Hawaii, Caribbean, and many other cities. While mastering a busy life, Dr. Walls still found time to publish two books, “God’s Beloved Jesus and You” and “I Decreed~Basking in the Spirit for 40 Days.”
Preceded in death: Velma M. Hopkins, (mother), Sue C. Scales(sister) and Sean R. Scales (nephew).
She leaves to cherish her memories: Daughter Twana Walls Carter (Douglas), three sisters, Frankie M. Scales, Idabel, Oklahoma, Vickie A. Scales, Idabel, Oklahoma and Donna M. Scales, Dallas, Texas and three brothers, Hurles U. Scales of Tyler, Texas, Lester E. Scales, Idabel, Oklahoma and Stevie L. Bailey, Allen, Texas. Marilyn also leaves a host of nieces, nephews relatives and friends.
Marilyn’s life philosophy is: “Jesus Is Lord.”
