Marty was one of the major influences on my life. She was my former wife Patty's aunt and pushed me to continue my education to a Ph.D. I did earn the degree and taught at Harvard and now teach at the University of Florida and am a department chair. It may not have happened if she had not been enthusiastic about going on, and on, and on... Marty was a music educator and was my most important contact with arts education. It is still with me although I'm a scientist.

Marty was my neighbor and friend.  She expressed unparalleled openness and joy for life.  She was genuine, talented and fun to know.  My condolences to her family.

Rest in peace, Marty Hayes. You helped generations of young people to enjoy music and become better people. God has a new angel.

Marty was a woman of great talent, good humor, and deep love.  I so enjoyed spending time with her.  She will be missed.  And, the devotion of Daryl and Carolyn blessed her life year by year.

She got me started in my Musical Theater career. I sang along side her and other great teachers in my first Musical with Dallas Summer Musicals. She was a fun, wonderful lady and teacher.

Marti was my sister's neighbor.  Once she entertained at my son's birthday party as a clown.  We had such a fun time!  One Halloween my daughter wanted to go as a clown, her class was having a contest for the best costume.  Marti came over early in the morning to dress and put clown make-up on her.  The whole drive to school my daughter (4yrs old) kept saying "I hope I win"....and she did....she looked WONDERFUL!!!  Marti certainly made her day, as she did for many people.  A very talented and dear person.

Oh, what a bright light Marty was for my high school experience at Kimball.  Concert Choir with her was the highlight of the day.  Rest in peace, sweet lady.  Rest in peace.

She was a wonderful teacher and such a sweet and genuine person! She always encouraged me. I joked with her, that I had the only NON-singing part in the senior musical when my class did Brigadoon. I went on to join the Westminster Youth Choir at Oak Cliff Presbyterian and toured the western United States. Her gifts were an inspiration to thousands of students, and her life an example of dedicated service. I was honored to know her.

She was my high school teacher and friend. She was an energetic spirit, great voiced, lovely, witty, slightly wicked, and amazingly talented. She had a giggle and laugh that would set your day free. Her eyes truly sparkled. She asked us to seek the best in ourselves. She helped a shy and awkward young man step into the arena and not flinch. I was far from the only one she helped and guided. She was brave and bold, and her friendship with Carolyn and Daryl was the same. Bless them. And Marty, too.
