Martha Nan Uland

May 23, 1934December 5, 2018

Martha Nan (Mashburn) Uland, age 84, died peacefully surrounded by her family on December 5, 2018.

Martha was born in Dallas on May 23, 1934. She was born to extraordinary parents, Tom (TO) and Clota Mashburn. She graduated from Pleasant Grove High School in 1951. She graduated from North Texas State (now University of North Texas) in 1955 with a degree in Education. She spent the next 41 years as a wonderful teacher and guidance counselor mainly for the Dallas Independent School District. She also earned her Master’s Degree from Texas Women’s University in Education, proving to her daughters that you can achieve anything you set your mind to do.

Martha was passionate about the well being and care of her family. A ‘true biblical Martha’...always caring for others. Having a meticulous home (even her closet!) and a beautiful yard seemed to be effortless for her. She was an amazing seamstress and her daughters remember vividly lying in bed at night and hearing the hum of the sewing machine as she made clothes for her girls. At the end of the day, there was never a chore left undone or anything left in anything but impeccable order. She worked tirelessly to provide for her family as an educator and tutor for Homework Hotline as well as working for decades for her favorite Dallas boutique, Village Tall Shop of Dallas. Her taste in clothing was unsurpassed and she was always the very best dressed one in the room.

She is preceded by her mother, Clota Marie Mashburn and her father, Thomas O. Mashburn as well as her brother, TC Mashburn.

Martha is survived by her daughters, Patty Uland Yocum of Terrell TX and Terry Uland Myers (Paul) of Abilene, TX. She was ‘Marma’ to her grandchildren, Cory Yocum and Cara Yocum and Thomas Myers and to her three great grandchildren, Emma, Eli and Sawyer. She is also survived by her sister, Norma Mashburn Hale (Ed) and ‘Aunt Martha’ to many wonderful nieces and nephews.

Martha’s family will celebrate her life on Saturday, December 8, 2018 at Grove Hill Funeral Home at 3920 Samuel Blvd in Dallas. Visitation begins at 10:00 am and her service will follow at 11:00 am.

I send much love and condolences to the family and friends of this remarkable child of God who always had a hug and “I love you” every time you saw her. What a beautiful and gracious lady who truly lived out the love of God in her life. I will always remember her thoughtful and kind ways. Gorgeous on the outside which I always admired; her outward appearance was an indication of what was in her heart. Her sweet spirit illuminated who she was. I will miss you, “Sweet Marma” - you were a role model for all of us! I love you!
