Martin Elmer Beckstrom, 66, of Dallas Texas passed away unexpectedly at home on August 18, 2024. He was born in Dallas on November 12, 1957, to Dr. Elmer George (E.G.) Beckstrom and Dr. Harriett Beckstrom. Martin graduated from Bishop Lynch High School in Dallas and went on to graduate from Southern Methodist University with a double major in Political Science and History.
Martin loved all sports, but especially football. His family was Dallas Cowboys season tickets holders. This allowed him to see lots of games and even go to Super Bowl XXX. More specifically he loved the OU Sooners and New England Patriots and Tampa Bay Buccaneers where his favorite player, Tom Brady played.
Martin never met a stranger and would give the shirt off his back to help someone. He was an avid reader and loved listening to the radio. When Martin was stricken with Transverse Myelitis in 2001, a rare neurological disease that left him partially paralyzed, he persevered. Through a lot of hard work on his part, he was able to walk again. Even though he was left with lifelong disabilities, Martin never took his ability to walk for granted and considered himself lucky.
Martin is preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his brother and sister-in-law Dr. Perry and Dana Beckstrom and Dana’s extended family who always considered Martin one of their own.
His wonderful spirit, laughter and kindness will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the TB12 Foundation or your favorite charity.
A graveside celebration of Martin’s life will be held at 11am on Saturday, August 31, 2024 at Grove Hill Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 3920 Samuel Blvd, Dallas TX 75228. A reception will follow.
