Born in 1928, Marvin grew up in Buffalo, New York. He graduated from the University of Buffalo with a degree in Business. After serving in the Korean War, he moved to Syracuse, New York where he met the love of his life, Lois Rosenberg . They married in 1956 and daughter, Cindie, was born one year later.
Marvin had a long and successful career, working his way up through the ranks at Dey Brothers, a division of Allied Stores. When offered a promotion to move to Dallas, Texas, Marvin jumped at the opportunity to get out of the snow and cold of Syracuse. He was Vice President and General Merchandise Manager at Titche-Gotttinger stores, which was later merged with Joskes. Marvin left Joskes in 1976 to join Berkline Corporation as Vice President and National Sales Manager. It was with Berkline where he had the pleasure to work with a wonderful group of salesmen he fondly named “The Magnificent Seven.” He retired from Berkline in 1996.
Marvin and Lois shared a passion for travel and met new friends on every trip. He took many trips with his Berkline “family”, sailed on twenty one cruises and loved his annual Christmas trips with his family. He took pride in his status as a Million Miler with American Airlines.
Marvin enjoyed playing golf and tennis and watching his beloved Dallas Cowboys, for which he held season tickets for many years.
Marvin was preceded in death by parents, Ben & Ruth Yost, brother and sister-in-law, Donald and Arielle Yost, and his beloved wife, Lois. Pops, as he was fondly called, loved his grandchildren, Stephen and wife Renee, Amy and Rebecca Kurtz. They held a deep respect for his knowledge, always believing that Pops was the smartest man they knew. Marvin is also survived by daughter and son-in-law, Cindie and David Kurtz. Special thanks to his long time caregiver, Mary Gardner. Mary promised Lois that she would take care of Marvin, which she did lovingly till the very end.
Graveside services were held Monday, February 16th, at Sparkman Hillcrest Memorial Park in Dallas, Texas.
