Mary Ann Barker passed away December 8, 2013. She was born on February 26, 1930 in San Antonio to Thomas N. and Anna House Tucker. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Bill, her two daughters Martha Haack (Jim) and Cindy King, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at Saint Michael and All Angels Church, 8011 Douglas, Dallas, at 11:00 on December 21, in the chapel.
Mary Ann graduated from the University of Texas, Austin, where she met and married Bill in 1951. She was an outstanding student of U.T. Being a member of Phi Beta Kappa, Mortar Board, Orange Jackets, and president of her sorority, Delta, Delta, Delta.
When the family moved to Dallas in 1971, she continued her studies earning a MLA from SMU and a Ph.D. from U.T. Dallas. She retired from the Provost’s Office at SMU in 1992.
Mary Ann was an active member of Saint Michael serving on the altar guild, as an usher, and the Prayer Shawl Ministry for many years. Always the student, she was a regular attendee at the Church’s Bible Classes. She was a member of the Dallas Shakespeare Club, The Dallas Women’s Club, The Junior League of Dallas and San Antonio (past president), Topics and Trends, The Dallas Garden Club and the Dallas Country Club.
Mary Ann enjoyed life, particularly her family and friends. She liked to travel, the Symphony, boating, books and especially her lake house at Lake Texoma. She loved astronomy and the stars, having served on the Visitors’ Board of the McDonald Observatory and as a docent at the Science Place Planetarium.
