

Mary Alice Denwitty was born in Dallas, Texas, on January 21, 1947. She passed away peacefully on September 27, 2026, at the age of 79. Mary attended George Washington Carver School and James Madison High School before graduating from Dr. L. G. Pinkston High School in Dallas, Texas.Mary and Donald R. Reed were the parents of three children: Dondrile L. Reed, Jacqueline A. Reed, and Elizabeth A. Reed-Smith.
Mary wore many hats throughout her life. She was one of the first Black sales associates at Neiman Marcus and co-owned and operated Donnie's Drive Inn with Donald R. Reed. She also worked for the City of Dallas Water Department and the Internal Revenue Service before serving as a clerk for the United States Postal Service. During her time working at a thrift store, Mary developed a special talent for finding hidden treasures and became a skilled bargain hunter who always knew how to find the best deals.
Mary will also be remembered for her beautiful and elegant sense of style. She always carried herself with grace and dressed beautifully - like the queen she is and will always be in our hearts.
Mary's faith was an important part of her life. Throughout the years, she attended several churches across the Dallas Metroplex. She loved the Lord and found great joy in worshiping and fellowshipping with others.
Her favorite Scripture was John 3:16. Mary fondly remembered attending Sunday school, where a gentleman who was unable to read but dearly loved the Lord taught her this Scripture. His faith and devotion left a lasting impression on her. Because of this experience, Mary shared her love for God and the message of John 3:16 with all of her children, ensuring that faith remained an important part of their lives.
Mary was preceded in death by her mother, Nellie Mae Tatum; her father, Richard Denwitty; her brother, Robert Denwitty; and her sister, Shirley Denwitty Hertford-Edwards.
She is survived by her children, Dondrile L. Reed and his wife, Ramonda E. Goodwin-Reed; Jacqueline A. Reed; and Elizabeth Reed-Smith and her husband, Elan J. Smith.
Mary is also survived by her loving grandchildren, Dominic D. Reed, Aaron M. Reed, Jayda Reed, and Hailey A. Smith; her great-grandchild, Arthur Reed, son of Dominic D. Reed; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends.
