

Mary Lynn Aldredge McEntire, age 85, passed away on December 4, 2009, after a long and rewarding life. She was deeply grateful for her family and many lifelong friends. Mrs. McEntire was born in Dallas, Texas on May 18, 1924, to Mary and Sawnie R. Aldredge. She graduated from the Hockaday School, attended Mary Baldwin College, and graduated from the University of Texas where she was a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma. In 1947, she married J.B. McEntire, Jr., her great love with whom she shared fifty years of marriage. She devoted her life to her family, friends, and her community volunteer work. As a civic leader, she was president of several organizations, including the Junior League of Dallas, Dallas County Heritage Society, Hockaday Alumnae Association, and Educational Opportunities. In addition to her involvement with the Pre-GED School, she served on the Board of Dallas Easter Seal Society for many years. She was a member of the Dallas Shakespeare Club, the Founders Garden Club of Dallas, the Dallas Country Club, and the Dallas Woman's Club. She served on the advisory board for Senior Source and served as Life Director of the Dallas County Heritage Society. Mrs. McEntire became active with the Muscular Dystrophy Association, organizing the first local fundraising dinner for ALS in honor of her husband. In recognition of her community service, she received the Hockaday Medal. In addition to a lifelong interest in folk art and travel, she especially loved books. Mrs. McEntire was predeceased by her parents, her brother, Sawnie R. Aldredge, Jr., and her devoted husband. She is survived by her daughter, Lynn McEntire Vogt of Dallas; son and daughter-in-law, Bart and Paddy McEntire of Carmel, California; son and daughter-in-law, Sawnie and Debra McEntire of Dallas; and daughter and son-in-law, Mary and Keith Young of Dallas. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Elizabeth Vogt Gottlieb and her husband Andrew, Ashley Vogt Kennedy and her husband Casey, Katherine McEntire Hoggan and her husband Craig, Harriet McEntire, Jay McEntire and his wife Meredeth, Kate McEntire, Maggie McEntire, Maddie McEntire, Sam McEntire, Martha Young, and Keith Young III; five great-grandchildren as well as other close family members, including Mimi McKnight, Sawnie Aldredge III, Amy Aldredge Thompson, and Shelley Vescovo. She was grateful for the care she received from Versie Williams, Sandra Warren, and Virginia Cunningham. A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, December 8, 2009, at 2:00 pm at the Church of the Incarnation, 3966 McKinney Avenue in Dallas. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorials be made to the Muscular Dystrophy Association or the Dallas County Heritage Society.
