Mary Theresa Scanlan Roffino joined her beloved husband Anthony Paul “Tony” Roffino in heaven on Monday, August 27, 2012. She was also welcomed by her parents Thomas and Frances Mae Scanlan, daughter Catherine Roffino Fox, and grandson Christopher Jett Mayo. Mary Theresa was born July 28, 1923 in Houston, Texas but moved to Dallas to marry her loving husband Tony. They successfully raised ten (10) children in the east Dallas area and were one of the founding families of the St. Pius X Catholic Church community. At St. Pius X, Mary Theresa served on the Ladies Society, Altar Preparation Society, Eucharist Ministry, over 55 Club, School Advisory Board, Boy and Girl Scouts leader, and helped with the intercessory prayer list. Mary Theresa’s faith in God held the family together. She led by example and was the perfect role model in practicing the Catholic faith. This was illustrated by her daily attendance at 6:15 mass and her faithfully reading the bible in the wee hours of the morning before her children arose. Mary Theresa was also an artist, producing watercolor pictures that captured the beautiful essence of the beach and farm lands. Mary Theresa’s needs were simple. She loved going to the Dallas Arboretum, the Farmer’s Market, and growing fig trees and rose bushes, but her heart was always at the beach. Her home away from home was South Padre Island where Tony purchased her a condo over 29 years ago. There she could take her children, grandchildren, great grand children, sisters, and friends to enjoy the ocean and all it offers. Most people did not know that when Mary Theresa was 55, she earned a Bachelor’s degree at the University of Texas at Dallas with one of her good friends, Virginia Landregan. She also participated in the Deaconate program with Tony at the University of Dallas growing more in faith with God. Mary Theresa wanted to die peacefully at home and God granted her wish with the help of Vitas Innovative Hospice Care, Arial Home Health Care but especially with the loving attendance of many family and friends.
Mary Theresa is survived by her children and their spouses Richard and Marjorie Roffino, Anthony and Lynn Roffino, David and Mary Margaret Roffino, Marianne Roffino, Patrick and Claire Roffino, Theresa Roffino and David Canine, Thomas and Lynne Roffino, Frances and Curtis Dill, and Rosalie and Emmett Conoly.
