Mary Louise Casarez Sanchez passed away peacefully on March 24, 2024, age 82 at her home in Miller Grove, Texas. She was born on June 20, 1941, in Dallas, Texas to Lenora Bernal and Adam Casarez. Her grandparents, Edward Alfado Bernal and Fernanda Bernal were a constant in her childhood. She grew up in Dallas with her siblings Janie, Joe, and Johnny and attended Crozier Technical High School.
Mary Louise married Mario Garnica, which lead to their children Grace, Hilda, John Glenn, and Raquel. She worked alongside Mario and her father-in-law, Juan, and learned the family trade. They eventually started their own successful art business. Then she began a career in electronic assembly as a quality control inspector for companies such as Curtis Mathes, Recognition Equipment, Boeing Company, and E-Systems. She was a pivotal part in the construction of the first ATM machines in the country. Since then, she worked as a professional tax preparer while instilling her warmth and wisdom in all she worked with.
In October of 1977, Mary Louise married Guillermo Sanchez, the father of five; Abigail, Maribel, Anna Maria, Guillermo Jr, and Guillermina. During their forty-seven years of marriage, they enjoyed traveling across the country. They especially enjoyed the annual family trips to Galveston. She was an excellent cook and loved spending time with her children and grandchildren, entertaining friends, family, having cookouts, and celebrating the holidays.
Mary and Guillermo decorated their yard so extravagantly people traveled to see it. As an exquisite dancer, she attended many formal and informal dances; she and Guillermo could dance the night away. She also enjoyed her rose garden and solving complicated puzzles. John Wayne was the movie star love of Mary’s life. Her memory will be cherished as kind and nurturing by her family and many life-long friends. Mary left a legacy of love, strength, laughter, and beautiful memories.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Lenora Castilleja, stepfather, Alex Castilleja; siblings, Janie Diaz and Johnny Castilleja; and son-in-law, Lawrence I. Lipman.
