Mary Zona Stubbs, age 89, passed away on Thursday, May 21, 2020.

Due to restrictions from the Covid-19, the funeral service for Mary Stubbs will be for immediate family only, thank you for your understanding during this time. Visitation is open to public from 12pm - 2pm.

Mary Zona Dean was born to Frank and Callie Dean on August 2nd, 1930 and was raised in Mesquite, TX with her seven older brothers. Mary always joked and said that having seven older brothers was like having 9 parents! Mary graduated as a member of the National Honors Society, from Mesquite High School in 1948 where she was voted “most pretty” out of her senior class, and was described by her classmates as charming and popular. In 1950 Mary married Hubert Stubbs and raised her family in the Dallas/ Mesquite area. She is survived by her four wonderful children: Barbara Stubbs Fahey, husband Bob of Pottsboro, TX; Dean Stubbs and wife Tina of Colorado Springs, CO; Sue Stubbs Gilstrap, husband Jim Gilstrap of Dallas; and Martin Stubbs, wife Donna of Mesquite, TX; her beloved older brother Virgil Dean of Mesquite, TX; sister-in-law Delores Stubbs of Ft. Worth and sister-in-law Evelyn Dean of Rockwall, TX. Mary is also survived by fourteen grandchildren, twenty-six great-grandchildren, five great-great grandchildren, and many other nieces and nephews. Before Mary began her battle with COPD, you could find her at one of the many Senior Citizens Centers around town dancing and socializing. She loved to play card games, board games, and dominoes. Yahtzee was her favorite! She especially liked taking trips to the Casino to play the slot machines with her family. Mary also known as Granny and GiGi was an incredible woman. Although soft spoken, she was rich in elegance and told the BEST stories to light up a room with laughter. She was the true matriarch of our of family and could bring us all together from miles away just to see her beautiful smile! Granny spent her final days surrounded by laughter and loved ones just as she always wanted. On May 21st heaven gained its most special angel yet. She has left an incredible imprint on every life she has touched. As Granny always said “All is well”

In Lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to the Dallas Police Widow and Children Fund or COPD Foundation: https://www.copdfoundation.org/Take-Action/Donate/Donate-Now.aspx

Mary was always a sweet and gentle lady who always said hello to me when I had the chance to see her. My mother-in-law, Peggy Akins, only had kind and wonderful tings to say about her. We are very sorry to hear of her passing. She will be missed by her family.
