Matt will always be remembered for his loving and giving nature. His creativity knew no bounds, and he used it so often to bring joy not only to the people he loved, but also to people in his community, and complete strangers. He was the epitome of the Good Samaritan, and went through the world looking for ways he could help and cheer others. Even when he was hospitalized, he made sure there was a candy dish with goodies for anyone, be they nurses, doctors, friends or family, who came into his room, so that little bit of sweetness could brighten their day.
Matt was a problem solver, and could do most anything from landscaping, to building, to plumbing, and was also a great cook. He was constantly doing things for others who were in need, with never any thought of personal recognition or gain. He was the person everyone looked to for advice and leadership, no matter what the issue. He could walk you through a problem over the phone, and his patient way never made anyone feel that they were bothering him with their problems.
First and foremost, Matt was a family man. He was a loving husband and father, and a doting Papi to his grandsons, nieces, and nephews. Some of his daughters’ fondest memories are of working on projects with their dad, and he never told them that there were things they shouldn’t do “because they were girls.” From him they learned how to put in a sprinkler system, work on cars, roofing, and so on, and he was always proud of the accomplishments they achieved on their own.
Matt also always took time to better himself, and was always interested in learning something new. In spite of his own challenges with dyslexia, Matt was able to go back to school, and to the immense pride of his family, earned a Bachelor’s Degree from Southern Methodist University.
Matt was preceded in death by his parents, Matias and Victoria Robles; sister, Adela Ibarra; and brother, Frank Victor Robles. He is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Laura Ellen Robles; daughters and sons-in-law, Alicia and Chuck Clinton, and Diana and Jessie Wilder; grandsons, Jacob and Aidan Clinton, and Carson Wilder; siblings, Rosemary Trevino, Charles Anthony Robles, Terecita Puente, and John Gilbert Robles; many loving nieces and nephews, and extended family members.
