Mattye Ann Ponder passed away peacefully on May 21, 2018, from complications with Alzheimer's disease. Ann was born on February 27, 1929, in Rockwall County and was a proud graduate of Rockwall High School.
Prior to marriage, she was an accomplished legal secretary in Dallas, TX. On October 16, 1949, she married David A. Ponder and became an outstanding wife, mother and homemaker. Ann and her husband had five children.
Ann was preceded in death by her parents, Mr. & Mrs. A.M. Garrett of Rockwall, her infant son, Robert Brian Ponder, as well as her husband of 47 years, David A. Ponder. She is survived by her sister, Jean Bayless of Dallas, and her four children and their spouses; David & Lea Ann Ponder of Houston, Carol & John Ferguson of Plano, Steve & Bliss Ponder of Bastrop and Mark & Julia Ponder of Carrollton. She is further survived by her 9 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
Throughout her life, Ann was always active in her various local churches and was a member of Wilshire Baptist Church in Dallas at the time of her death. An avid reader, she passed on to her four children a lifelong love of reading. She joined her husband as a passionate supporter of Baylor University athletics.
Though her family, friends and loved ones grieve at her passing, they find great strength and hope in the glorious promises of the Christian faith. The family asks that any memorials or donations be made to the West Texas Rehabilitation Center in Abilene, TX.
The family will receive visitors on Friday, May 25, from 7:00 to 9:00 pm at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home. Private graveside will be held in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
