Mavonne loved school as a child and was an excellent student, graduating as salutatorian from Forney High School. She continued her education at the University of Texas at Austin, graduating with highest honors with a Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting. She worked for a short time in the business world in Dallas before marrying Joe Maloney, a General Contractor and home builder in Dallas. Joe and Mavonne were married in April of 1950. Joe and Mavonne lived most of their lives in Forney, Texas and raised five children in Forney. Mavonne believed that being a wife and mother was the most important calling in her life, and she put aside her career aspirations to manage her busy household. In 1975 when her children were older , she deciced to return to her love of learning and she earned a 2nd bachelor’s degree, this time a Bachelor’s of Science in Nursing from the University of Texas at Arlington. She immediately began to work at St. Paul Hospital Hospital and was there for many years, specializing in the care of heart patients. Joe, her husband of 31 years, passed away from cancer in 1981. Mavonne made Dallas her home at that time and upon retirement from St. Paul Hospital, she became a long-time volunteer at Sam Houston Elementary School near her home, sitting and listening to children practice their reading skills. Her love of children was made complete upon becoming the grandmother of two boys. Throughout her life, Mavonne has always been very active in the United Methodist Church, teaching Sunday school classes and leading the United Methodist Women’s group for many years. She had two main hobbies during her life: cooking and playing bridge. If you ask Mavonne the things that have meant the most to her throughout her long and memorable life, Mavonne would tell you these three things: her faith in God, her love of family, and her quest for learning. Survivors include: her oldest daughter, Carolyn Adrian and her husband Gary Adrian, of Austin; her son John Maloney of Mckinney; her daughter Marion Whittemore of Jasper and her husband Dr. Jon Whittemore and their two sons Joseph and Ben.
