Melba was born September 8, 1946, to the parentage of L.C. and Earline Clay in Many, Louisiana. She was affectionately called Norma Jean by family and friends. At an early age, she gave her life to Christ and was a member of the New Jerusalem Baptist Church in Many, Louisiana. She attended Sabine High School and was a graduate of the Class of 1964. She moved to Dallas, Texas in 1970. She united in Holy Matrimony to Curtis Richardson on June 28, 1972; a son was born to this union. She became a member of Pilgrim Rest Missionary Baptist Church in 1972. She served as a Deaconess, Sunday School teacher in the youth department, a member of Mission 2, served in the nursery, and sang in the Gooden-Prince Adult Choir until her health failed. She was employed by Hartford Insurance Company for over 30 years.
She is preceded in death by her parents, L.C. and Earline Clay; son, Dr. Lucius R. Weathersby; brother, Lenell Slaughter; sisters, Bobbie Hollins and Gloria Thomas.
She leaves to cherish her memories: husband, Curfis Richardson; son, LeVar D. Richardson of Dallas, Texas; grandson, Lucius C. Weathersby of San Diego, California; daughter-in-law, Diane Weathersby of San Diego, California; brothers Samuel V. Slaughter of Many, Louisiana, Lonnie L. Maxie (Yvonne) of Dallas, Texas; step-granddaughter, T'Andria Hightower Texas; Melba also leaves a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends.
