Michael Howard Bierner, “Mickey,” 73 passed away November 18, 2016 after a brief battle with lung disease. In 1943, Mickey was born in Dallas, TX to the late Harold & Zelda Bierner. He graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School, received his BA from Tulane, and law degree from UT Austin. In 1968, he married the love of his life Barbara Simon with whom he shared the next 49 years. After serving in the Army Reserves, Mickey returned to Dallas where he joined the family millinery business. Their first child, Lara, was followed two years later by their son Jonathan. Mickey was a family man. He was involved in all of his children’s activities and loved traveling with family and friends. Mickey was an avid reader, gifted in all things mathematical, had a sharp sense of humor and a gentle soul. He was a dedicated husband, friend, father, and a respected businessman. He loved his children unconditionally and not only accepted their sexual orientation but with his wife Barbara promoted LGBT human rights in the Jewish and Dallas communities. He leaves behind his wife Barbara, children Lara and Jonathan, siblings Barbara Miller, Mark Bierner, Eileen (Stanley) Franklin, brothers-in-law Steve Simon and Mark (Angelica) Simon, multiple nieces, nephews, cousins, and life-long friends. The Memorial Service is Sunday November 20, 12:30pm at Temple Emanu-El. Mickey was loved and will be deeply missed. In lieu of flowers, consider a donation to a charity of your choice.
