Michael John Griggs of Dallas, Texas gracefully departed this world at the age of 86 on February 3, 2024. Born in Hartford, CT August 9, 1937 and raised in Longboat Key, Florida. He moved to Dallas in 1963 and worked at Whitney Manufacturing and Olmsted Kirk Paper until his retirement in 2002.
Michael will be remembered as an amazing husband of 55 years who was devoted to his wife, Mary, and a loving father and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. Most Saturdays he could be found cruising around Dallas with his children in tow heading to rollerskate, swim, fish, check out books at the library, or just shop. Not only did he like to stay on the move walking, biking, or working in the yard, but he was also an avid reader and loved listening to all genres of music. A hidden talent was his ability to needlepoint, a craft he learned one snow day. All of his children and grandchildren have a beautiful needlepoint art work that he carefully created.
Michael was a leader for his son’s Boy Scout troops for many years organizing activities for meetings and campouts. He and Mary were devout Catholics attending masses and involved in the community at St. Thomas Aquinas for over 50 years. Most would describe Michael as a quiet man, but those close to him know his ability to engage in lively conversation on a myriad of topics. He will be greatly missed.
Michael is survived by his children Karen (David) Wooldridge (Weatherford, TX); Dr. Tom (Jane) Griggs (Oklahoma City, OK); Diane (David) DiGiacomo (Charlottesville, VA); and Mark (Andrea) Griggs (Van Nuys, CA); 7 grandchildren: Trey Wooldridge, Kaleigh Wooldridge, Grace Griggs, Luke Griggs, Caroline DiGiacomo, Michael DiGiacomo, and Boden Griggs.
A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 6306 Kenwood Ave. Dallas, on Friday, February 16th at 10 am to honor and celebrate his life.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St Vincent DePaul at St Thomas Aquinas or Ladies of Charity of Dallas.
