Michael Walter Slovak, age 69, passed away on November 22nd, 2020 in his Lewisville, TX home. Affectionately known as “Dee Dee”, he was loved and cherished by so many as Husband, Father, Grandpa, Brother and Friend. He was born April 22nd, 1951 in Dallas, TX to Hedy and Walter Slovak. His wit, irreverent humor, and handsome smile charmed everyone he met and shined through despite any challenges he faced. In his early years, he served the Holy Cross Catholic Church as an altar boy and attended Bishop Dunne High School. Mike spent his summers working alongside his father learning carpentry. He continued to hone his craft and built a career and legacy in construction as a wonderfully skilled carpenter. He built residential and commercial buildings throughout the United States and took great pride in his work, sharing his latest movie theater or retail project accomplishments with those he loved. He felt most at home on the water in a boat or hunting. At home he shared his love of the sport replacing Saturday morning cartoons with countless hours of hunting and fishing shows. He was proud of his Czech roots and his family. He taught us only the bad Czech words, was the life of any party, and always fashionably late. His great love of food and family never subsided even in his ailing health.
He is survived by his wife Dawn “Hannah”, daughter Taylor (Dan), stepdaughter Denise, grandchild Parker Jane, step grandchildren Nastassia and Natalie (Kendrick), step great grandchildren Raleigh and Kayden, sisters Debbie (Dale), Dianna (Doug), Carol (Mike) and their beloved families, and his “Four-legged children” Levi and Hollywood. He is preceded in death by his mother and father, and stepson Dean Grimes. We take comfort knowing he is at peace and out of pain, and is reunited with those who have gone before us. His larger than life presence is sorely missed. In his latter years, he desperately wanted one more bass boat trip… we’re certain if Heaven didn't have a bass boat, it does now. Many heartfelt thanks to the friends who have given such great care to our "Mikey". We are forever grateful for the love and care you gave. Given the current pandemic circumstances, services will be postponed until we may safely gather to celebrate and honor his life. A Catholic Memorial Mass and service will be announced in the future.
Arrangements are under the direction of Sparkman-Crane Funeral Home in Dallas, TX. 214-327-8291.
