Mike was born and raised in Mobile, Alabama, and graduated from Davidson High School in 1979. He earned his Bachelor's in Computer Science at University of South Alabama, where he was the president of Sigma Chi fraternity and an ROTC cadet. It was there that he facilitated the building of the very first fraternity house on campus and jokingly manifested the idea for the movie "Animal House." He wore his patriotism on his sleeve as he served in the US Army as 1st Lieutenant. His ambitious spirit led him to seek a Master's in Business from Southern Methodist University. Over his 35-year business career, Mike held executive positions with Perot Systems, United Healthcare and Transunion. He was planning to retire this year, after spending nearly a decade as the Chief Operating Officer of Teracore, a government contracting firm in Washington, D.C.
Beginning in high school and throughout his life, Mike was an advocate for those with special needs as he held close to his heart that all God's children were created perfectly. As a teenager, he volunteered with the Bill Barber Organization to support the handicapped community. He was also involved with organizations with similar missions like MARC, Friends of Exceptional Children, and the Special Olympics.
Always the entertainer, Mike brought life to every party and humor to all the family reunions. Many will recall his striking resemblance to "Tom Cruise from a few blocks away, around the corner, and at night." He treasured all things water related: sailing, The Gulf, West Indies Crab Salad, boating, Jimmy Buffett, and his Potomac River House sanctuary "Sun Pennies." He was always first to jump at the opportunity to round up the kids for hot Krispy Kreme at dawn and skiing or tubing until sunset.
The greatest joys of Mike’s life were being an amazing husband to Anita, and father to his daughter, Annie, who Mike was so very proud of for her hard work and success as a soon to be graduate of Texas Tech Medical School; beloved step-sons, Thomas and William; and many pet dogs who greeted him every day with their tails wagging. One cannot speak of Mike’s love for his family in past tense for its vastness spreads beyond time.
Mike was greeted in Heaven by his father, Thomas Snitman, mother, Maxine "Marie" Snitman, sister, Marian Snitman, and college sweetheart and first wife, Julie Ann Mason Snitman, who passed away in 1994. A beloved son, a doting father, dedicated husband, and an enthusiastic brother and uncle - he will be remembered and treasured by all.
Mike is survived by his wife, Anita McEwen Snitman, daughter, Annie Snitman, and step-sons Thomas and William Roberts; siblings, Suzanne Mickles, Samuel (Gloria) Snitman, and Denise Betbeze; sister in law, Karen Mason (Jeff Suess); nephews, James (Jenny Cate) Betbeze, Jordan (Erin) Betbeze; and nieces, Elizabeth (Stephen) Smith, Margaret Pate, Julie Snitman, Matthew (Addison) Suess, Alexandra Suess, Mason Suess, and Caroline Suess; as well as a great niece and great nephews.
