Milton “Dana” King, Jr., 85, returned to his heavenly home on August 26, 2016 from a sudden complication during a recent hospitalization. During his life, but particularly over the last months, Dana had visited about God’s vast and deep provision. He reveled in the promise of being freed from the imperfections of earthly life and in his receiving life perfected in Christ Jesus.
Dana was born to the late Milton and Ida King in Houston, TX on March 16, 1931. It was there that he was baptized at Zion Lutheran Church. He enjoyed his childhood surrounded by a large community of extended family. The family had emigrated from Germany and Dana often spoke of his grandfather’s deep pride in being an American. In his teenage years, Dana’s family moved to Denver, Colorado. Dana later attended the University of Denver receiving a B.S. in Chemistry in 1954. Following college, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Army. He was called for service in Korea. The war ended as he was reporting for active duty. Following his military service, Dana worked as a water chemist for Merck & Co. He continued in this career for over 30 years.
Dana met Sally Flanagan in 1966 on a blind date arranged by a work colleague. He often fondly referred to her as his “Nebraska gal.” Throughout his life, she and his two daughters, Holly and Carolyn, would know they were deeply loved. His immense integrity, strong character, sense of humor, and reliance on the Lord were qualities of immeasurable value for all who knew him.
Dana is survived by his wife of 48 years, Sally; his daughters and their husbands, Holly and Brian Lemons and Carolyn and Steve Brown; his grandsons, Luke Lemons and Jack Brown; and his sister Carol Greenwood. He is preceded in death by his brother Robert King; and his parents, Ida and Milton King.
Dana will be remembered in a Memorial Service at Zion Lutheran Church at 10:00am on September 1, 2016. The Reverend Doctor Robert Preece will officiate. In lieu of flowers, please consider contributions to Vogel Alcove or CASA. He will be interred at the National Cemetery in Dallas.
