Minnie Siegel, 105, died on July 13, 2019, in Dallas. Minnie was born May 8, 1914, in Gatesville, TX, to Russian immigrants Annie and W.H.Novit. She grew up in Dublin, TX, graduating from Dublin High School in 1931, then continued her education at Draughn’s Business College in Dallas. In Dallas, she met and married Nathan Siegel, May 1, 1938. They moved to Dublin, joining her parents in their business, and raising their three children. For many years they were members of Congregation Ahavath Sholom in Fort Worth, driving 75 miles on Sundays to give their children a Jewish education. Eventually they bought Novit’s Department Store from her parents and operated it for 25 years. Minnie enjoyed working in the store, as well as participating in community organizations. She was President of Rotary Anns, and active in PTA, Eastern Star, and many other civic organizations. Upon moving to Dallas, she joined Congregation Shearith Israel and volunteered in their gift shop for 25 years. She was a Lifetime Member of Hadassah. After Nathan died, Minnie moved to Town Village North and later moved to Signature Pointe on the Lake and finally an Avendelle Group Home. Minnie was preceded in death by Nathan, her husband of 60 years, and her son Louis J. Siegel. Minnie is survived by two daughters and their husbands, Jan and Charles B. Hart of Temple, and Pam and Joe Joffre, Jr. of Oak Leaf, grandchildren Debbie Roberson, Kathy Hart, David and Karen Hart, Rod and Kesha Joffre, and Joe Joffre, III, and great-grandchildren, Jake Roberson, Rachel Roberson, Alona Weimer, Joshua Weimer, Daphne hart, Zachary Hart, Alec Joffre, Peyton Joffre and Logan Joffre, and her sister Mildred Wiles, as well as many nieces and nephews. Pallbearers will be her grandsons and great-grandsons. Honorary Pallbearers will be her nephews. She will always be remembered as the “hostess with the mostest” and for her sense of humor, kindness, love of family, enjoyment of life and bridge played with friends of 70 years. Thanks goes to Ardent Hospice, with special thanks to NKechie and Veronica Chukwu, and all the other wonderful caregivers over the past 10 years. Graveside services will be at Shearith Israel Cemetery, 4634 Dolphin Rd., Dallas, Texas Tuesday, July 16, at 11:00a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the charity of your choice.
