Morris Shapiro,husband and soulmate to my aunt Dorothy before she passed away,was a man of unusual talents.One talent in particular was his ability to read people.He was a self taught student and observer of people to whom he came in contact.This trait in him perhaps could explain his talent at poker.He also developed a strict code of personal ethics and life rules that served him well as guidelines through his long and interesting life.
I regret that his request for me,and also Mr.Fitz,(my mini schnauzer companion), to be with him and assist him on his journey ,Didn't occur as we had planned.But'with the close knit circle of friends and family near him,he received the loving care that he needed.

It's hard to face the fact that we have lost a wonderful, caring and gentle man.

Mike and I embrace many delightful moments in talking with Morris about his favorite subjects like baseball, football and sports of all kind and about his car which he loved and not to forget our dog Cookie. Morris looked forward to Cookie's visit when Mike would be out walking her it was like watching a young man again to see him get excited when she would jump upon his bed and do a couple of tricks, What joy this dog brought him.

We enjoyed sharing many fabulous dinners with Morris at Chamberlains Steak and Chop House and lunches at Remington's Seafood in Addison. The wait staff served him with the respect  and they were amazed he was 103 years young and had such a sharp mind and whit.

Morris may have departed, but we will never forget him and the friendship that brought us so close together.

Our hearts are heavy knowing our friend is gone and our life won't be the same.  

Mike and I send our love and prayers to his family and to the Springstead neighbors in this time of sorrow.

We had the honor meeting Morris about ten years ago,at his favorite restaurant,Dickeys Barbecue located at preston and belt line, what a guy,amazing passion for life and care about the others until the last minute. I had the pleasure of serving him each time, always had friends and relatives with him, no one ever made an attempt to pay because they knew Morris, he always asked me what kind of change we are talking about, he always had his change ready,huge self confidence and respect , what a friend, when he walked into my establishment he was the high light of the crowd most customers knew him and his habbits, he will be missed for ever, our world is not going the same as we loose his generation. Mr. Shapiro and I have been neighbors for 30 yrs. & had the opportunity to assist him three years ago and we developed a great relationship.  He was very interesting and full of history.

Morris had a sharp keen mind to the end and his warmth touched all of us. Also very dedicated to his family, friends and a very generous person.  I will miss dearly.  Carole Foster
