Nancy Johnson Armour

Nancy Johnson Armour died in Dallas on March 14, 2026. She was born on March 13, 1940 in Orange, New Jersey, the only child of William Lawson Johnson and Mabel Fassbender Johnson. Nancy was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, James Lott Armour and is survived by their son, John Lawson Armour, his wife Emily Hughes Armour and granddaughter, Rowan Elizabeth Armour.

She grew up in suburban Philadelphia and graduated from Lower Merion High School in Ardmore. In 1958 she departed the East Coast to attend Vanderbilt University where she was a member of Kappa Delta Sorority. She met Jim while a freshman and they married following her graduation, while Jim was a second-year student at Vanderbilt law School. Upon his graduation in 1964, they moved to Dallas where Jim received his Master's degree in oil and gas law from Southern Methodist University.

The oil business took them to Houston, New York City, London and for many years, New Canaan, Connecticut. A longtime resident of Highland Park, since returning to Texas in 1984, Nancy's life centered on active participation in numerous volunteer/community activities. In 1999 then Governor George W. Bush commissioned her as a member of the Texas Council on Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders. Prior to her appointment, she served as president of A.W.A.R.E. and on the board of the Dallas Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association. An active member of the Dallas Symphony League, she was co-chair of the 1991 Presentation Ball. A lifetime supporter of the Salvation Army, she served as president of the Salvation Army Women's Auxiliary. Always an involved mother, Nancy was a member of the Parent's Club Board of Directors for the St. Mark's School of Texas. She served on the board of the Friends of WRR where she was able to support the education and understanding of classical music throughout the WRR listening area. A member of the Dallas Woman's Club, she was President of the Marianne Scruggs Garden Club. Nancy was a board member of The Charter 100 of Dallas and the Mary K. Craig Class. She enjoyed entertaining friends and family at the Dallas Petroleum Club as well as the Park City Club. A faithful member of St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, she served on the Altar Guild and as a volunteer at St. Michael's Woman's Exchange in Highland Park Village. Nancy was a devoted mother, grandmother and friend and will be missed by all who knew her.
