Nancy was born on November 11, 1931, in Tacoma, Washington. She earned her Bachelor of Arts in History from the University of Washington in 1954. Nancy lived in five states but resided principally in Palos Verdes Estates, California, for over 50 years, where she and her late husband, Dale Leonard Yates (1932-1987), raised their three children. She married the late James McBride, DDS (1927-2016) in 1993. In 2011, the couple moved to Dallas.
Nancy was the beloved mother of Geoffrey Yates, wife Denise of Dallas, Evelyn Middleton of Coppell, Texas, and Joseph Yates of Irving, Texas, Carol McBride Merriman, husband Richard of Park City, Utah; the fond sister of Judith Purcell Mott Henke of Seattle; and grandmother of Bradley Yates, wife Natalie of Jackson, Wyoming, Nancy Yates of New York, Ellen Middleton Schweitzer, husband Lukas of Dallas, Charlotte Middleton of Dallas, and Evan Merriman of Park City, Utah.
Nancy was blessed with two great-grandchildren, Jack Yates and Abigail Yates of Jackson, Wyoming. She loved her two cats, Ralph and Trixie.
She was an avid sports lover, especially the University of Washington Huskies football team, and particularly enjoyed snow skiing, fly fishing, and gardening.
Nancy was an active United Cerebral Palsy (UCP) volunteer, now known as Momentum. In recognition of her dedication and support, UCP placed a tribute plaque in one of their California gardens, noting her great passion for gardening.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at The Chapel of the Cross, 4333 Cole Ave, Dallas, Texas, with a reception to follow.
