Nancy Marie Davis-Russell, born on January 29, 1944,in Mt. Enterprise, Texas, to the parentage of Betsy Lee Johnson-Davis and Edelsia Davis. She was the fifth born of nine children. Nancy completed her education in Mt.Enterprise ISD and graduated from Fredrick Douglass High School in Jacksonville ISD, class of 1962, where she played basketball and took sewing and home economics where she learned to sew quilts and to cook. After high school she worked for the local sewing company in Jacksonville. She was also a member of a community social club society.
Nancy married Louis Walter Bolton, June 12, 1964. In this union she had two children, Walter Tyrone Bolton, (who preceded her in death) and Quanitus Ramona Bolton.
She accepted Jesus as her Lord and saviour as a teenage and joined Jacksonville, Church of the Living God (C.W.F.F.), Temple #85. She moved to Dallas, TX in 1972 and moved her membership to Sunnyvale Church of the Living God, Temple #73 where she served faithfully in the choir, was a sponsor for the B.R. Keller youth choir, attended Sunday School and in many other capacities in the church until her marriage in 1978.
In 1978, she married Elder Fred Russell and to this union two children were born, RaShonda LaShette Russell and Shawann Denise Russell. She served as the first lady and later become a Missionary, serving District 12 as the Choir and Mission president for many years. She visited churches, co-authored cookbooks, supported the Usher Board King and Queen contest. She served at the National Secretary of the Women's Work. She served as District 12's Women Work president for over 25 years. She was admirably known as Aunt Nancy and Sis. Russell throughout the District and Brotherhood.
Nancy worked at Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Texas for 25 years and later for TrailBlazers, filing medical claims for Medicare. She retired in 2005 after battling with her health where she had a daycare for her grandkids, great-nieces/nephews and other friends of the family. She was loved by many and known as "Granny" to all.
She loved God and was dedicated to living her life unspotted from the world. She lifted up Christ in her daily walk and dedicated her time, influence and means to teach and help spread the gospel at home and abroad. She encouraged the young women of the church and made her home a center of love and light for Christ. Most of all, she walked worthy of the vocation wherein she was called. She was a bright and shining light for the Lord.
Preceding her in death were her parents, Edelsie Davis and Bessie Lee Davis; brothers Dreyfus Davis,Eddy Davis and Terry Stein; sisters Frances Johnson & Jeanette Ward and only beloved son, Walter Tyrone Bolton, grandson, Derius DeMarcell Bolton; great-grandson, Quaylon Bannister II. .
She leaves to cherish her memory:
Her three daughters: Quanitus, RaShonda, and Shawann. Grandchildren: Quaylon Bannister (Chantee), Desmone Whitaker (Tesheba), LaDonna Thompkins, Octavian Lewis, Eboni Smith,Alexis Bolton, Ja'Reon Anderson, Shannon Byrd and Sarae Anderson. Great-Grandchildren: Quayliah Bannister and Levi Whitaker. Two brothers: Willie Davis (Lillie);George Davis (Mary). Two sisters: Cynthia Washington and Portia (Billy) Brown. A host of cousins, nieces and nephews and loving friends whom she loved dearly.
