

Her family moved to Dallas when Jean was 6. She graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School. She met her husband and love of her life, Al Carrell, at SMU. She graduated from SMU in 1951 with a degree in fashion design.
On December 29, 1951 Al and Jean were married and had two daughters, Kelly and Meg. Al and Jean were married 62 years before his death in 2014. The family is comforted knowing Al and Jean are walking hand-in-hand on the beach in heaven.
She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother, friend as well as “mom” to many children not born to her.
Jean was a member of North Park Presbyterian Church (and its predecessors) for 88 years and loved her church family.
She loved laughing, cooking, gardening, needlework and Galveston (the “cure for whatever ails you”).
She is preceded in death by her parents, her twin sister, Jane and her sister, Mary Lou. She is survived by her daughter, Kelly Day (and husband Richard), Meg Wells (and husband David), granddaughters, Sarah Riley Gardner (and husband Jason), Claire Wells and Grace Wells, great grandson, Liam Riley Gardner and numerous nieces and their families and a host of friends.
