

Nira Jean McCoy, née Dancer, was born July 17, 1949, in Dallas, Texas, to Julius Walker and Vera Lynn Dancer. She was the first daughter among eight children and was lovingly named by her aunt, Matriarch Louise Dismukes. Nira departed this life on April 26, 2026, at Nathan Adelson Hospice in Las Vegas, Nevada, after courageously battling kidney disease. She was 76 years old.
Nira was a woman of grace, intelligence, strength, and quiet determination. She attended the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and built lifelong friendships and memories. During her professional career, she worked as a Senior Administrative Assistant, where she was respected for her professionalism, dedication, and compassionate spirit.
She was married to Kenneth McCoy, who remains to cherish her memory. Outside of her career and family life, Nira enjoyed staying active and connected to her community. She was a proud member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated, enjoyed UNLV basketball, and loved bowling with the TNBA Bowling League.
Nira was preceded in death by her mother, Vera Lynn Dancer; her father, Julius Walker; and her siblings, Ocie Lee Dancer Jr. and Karen Denise Dancer Hunter.
She leaves to cherish her memory her beloved husband, Kenneth McCoy; her aunt, Matriarch Louise Dismukes; her uncle, Patriarch Wendell Stribling; her sister, Michelle Dancer of California; her brothers, Reecy Dancer of California, Warren (Lynne) Dancer of Arizona, Marcus (Kate) Dancer of Texas, and Eric Dancer of Texas; her sister-in-law Claudia Ward of Nevada; her sister-in-law Pat Harris of Nevada; her brother-in-law Clyde McCoy of Nevada; and a host of loving family members and dear friends.
She also leaves behind her cherished nieces and nephews: Cher (Greg) Briones, Condoleezza Briones, Keanu Briones, Jeremy (Janel) Dancer, Daniel (Dea) Dancer, Justin (Samantha) Dancer, ShaVaughn (James) Martin, Roderick (Lavada) Hunter, Cierra Leigh’On Hunter, Jordon (Whitney) Dancer, Austin Dancer, Wynton Ward of Nevada, and Darron McCoy of Nevada, along with many other nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews throughout Texas, Nevada, and across the country.
Nira will be remembered for her warmth, wisdom, resilience, and the love she shared with those around her. Her legacy lives on in the lives she touched and the family she cherished so deeply.
