Nurit Amit, daughter of Bat-Ami Greenbaum (née Kaback) and Benyamin (Benyo) Greenbaum, died on January 27, 2022, in Dallas, Texas. She was born in Israel in Kibbutz Gan Shmuel, where she grew up as a second-generation Israeli.
Following her army service with the Israeli Defense Forces, she attended the Rubin Academy of Music and Dance in Jerusalem. While there, she studied under the globally renowned dancer Bat Sheva. After graduation from the Academy, Nurit taught dance to high school students in Tel Aviv. While accompanying a friend of hers from the academy to her friend's home in Kibbutz Beit Zera, she met her (now former) husband Eilon. Following their marriage in 1963, they lived in Beit Zera for three years, where their son Ohad was born in 1965. They moved to Tel Aviv in 1966, where their daughter Roni was born in 1969.
In 1971, the family left Israel for the United States. After a few years, they settled in Dallas, Texas, where Nurit remained throughout her life.
Nurit continued to have a strong connection to Israel and made annual visits home to Gan Shmuel, and to see family in Jerusalem. In Dallas, Nurit was very active in the folk dance community, taught Hebrew and enjoyed time with friends. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren and regale them with stories of her family’s history in Israel. She is survived by her son Ohad (Krissy) Amit, daughter Roni Amit, and her grandchildren Emily, Joshua, and Jadon Amit.
