Oleta Pearl Rivers

Oleta Pearl Briggs Rivers went to be with the Lord on April 19, 2016. She was born January 31, 1926 to Edmiral Dewey Briggs and Sara Iona Simmons Briggs in Emory Texas. She is survived by her son Buford Darrell Rivers Jr. (her just right boy) & wife Margo Rivers, Charlet Rivers Sapundjieff, Rob Sapundjieff (my Robby) & wife Amanda Ward, Drew Sapundjieff, Katelyn Sapundjieff, Mary Caudill, Annie Greco, Tommy Manby and David Manby. She was preceded in death by her sisters Myreta McLeroy and Thelma Cason and by her brother Marvin “buddy” Briggs, Husband Buford Darrell Rivers Sr., grandson Buford Darrell Rivers III, and son in law Philip Robert Sapundjieff Jr.

Oleta was a member and secretary of Mt. Calvary Baptist Church in Dallas and then a long time member of Bethany Baptist Church in Dallas. She was saved and baptized in a farm pool during a summer revival at Prospect Baptist Church in Rains County Texas at the age of 15.

Oleta also worked for Reserve Life Insurance Company, and after taking a break to raise children she worked as a school secretary for B.H. Macon Elementary school, where she retired. She was a life time member of the PTA. She earned her AAS degree from Eastfield College after returning to school in her fifties. She enjoyed gardening and taking care of her grandchildren.

Services will be Friday April 22, 2016 at Grove Hill Funeral Home, visitation at 12:30 pm and Funeral service at 2:00 pm. Interment will be in the Grove Hill Memorial Park Cemetery.
