Evidently barefoot til she quit school after the 6th grade.
Married to Lonnie Vick around the age of 15 or 16, resulting in the birth at the age of 20 of her only natural child, Don Vick of Virginia Beach, VA who, with his wife Gloria took care of Joyce for her last 12 or 13 years of her life.
She was married a total of five times, with her fifth marriage to Bob Stephens. That was her longest marriage, of a little more than 22 years, and as she very often said, she "kept going til she got it right". And so she did...
