A family is a circle of love, not broken by loss, but made stronger by the memories.

Oscar Mario Flores passed away on July 23, 2020 at the age of 79. After several months of failing health, his final hours were spent at home with his wife and family by his side.

Oscar was born on March 5, 1941 in Laredo, Texas to Fabian and Guadalupe (Luna) Flores. Oscar started his career with DTS in 1970 and retired after 38 years of service from DART where he worked in multiple departments/functions ultimately retiring as the Manager of Training & Support Services.

Many may remember him as a coach and player on a softball team in West Dallas called Los Lobos, a founding member of Viejo de los Barrios as well as a member of VFW American Legion Post No. 275. Oscar had many passions from watching boxing, taking cruises with his wife to spending time with family and friends. Oscar is survived by his wife Mercy, his sister Olga Tapia, his children Oscar Jr., James (Belinda), Christina, Ofilia (Dan) Roen, Richard (Rita), Orlando, Michelle (Javier) Ramirez as well as his grandchildren Kathy, Jade (Jonah) Edwards, Max, Richard II, Benjamin, Sarah, Samantha, Melena, Emily, Lucas, Jaxen, James, Elena and one great grandchild, Hayes along with numerous nieces and nephews. So many childhood memories growing up across the street! One of my favorite was when I caught the biggest fish in 6th grade on a field trip. I brought it home to show my dad. OscR was outside so I took my cooler box over to show him. I was so proud. Oscar looked at the fish and said it was dead so he stuck a Waterhose in the mouth of the fish and it started moving again! I was amazed!!

I know Oscar from the neighborhood, when I was a kid. I remember he would always come out on the porch and whistle for his kids to come home for dinner and what not. When he whistled they'd better come home. I also remember that he looked out for all of us (kids) nobody could come in our hood and mess with us, he would stop that in its tracks. He was an awesome neighbor , and a hero in my eyes. Mr. Flores, you will be missed.

My condolences go out to Mrs. Mercy and family. I first met Oscar in 1988. I was 14 yrs old. I was an intern working at DART at 101 Peak. I rode around town with him going to different DART facilities. It was an interesting summer. Oscar always said what was on his mind. I later came to work at DART in 95. He always told me how proud he was of me when I became a DART TC Supervisor. You will be greatly missed.

Sincerely,

Oscar i am gonna miss you so much. I remember back in 1982 in the money room of DTS when i first met you i was so scared of you with all the back talking you did that every time you walked in i walked out. Lol. Never imagined our friendship would last a lifetime. The one and only time i remember you not back talking was at DTS when your friends hired for you a big live ballerina in a tutu n tights come stomping down the hall screaming "Oscar Flores here is your birthday surprise" and when you came out to the hall the look on your face was like "what the hell". Thats the only time i think you where left without words! Million dollar look! My Fred Flintstone (our nickname for you) is now resting in peace and watching over us. It was a pleasure being your friend! Thank you for everything you did for me.
