Osias Blum

August 29, 1929March 28, 2011

Born in 1929 in Brody, Poland and passed away March 28, 2011 in Dallas. Osias was one of 5 children. When he was 11 years old he went out of the Jewish ghetto to get food for his family, and when he returned his entire family had been killed by the Nazis. When he was picked up by the Nazis, he changed his identity and was transported to work on a farm in Germany, and was there for 5 years. After the war ended, he returned to Poland in search for any loved ones but found no survivors. In 1949, by the graces of the USA, he came by ship to New Orleans and was then sent to Dallas, thanks to the Jewish agencies here. He met the love of his life, Rosa in 1950 and got married in August of that year. He served in the US Army during the Korean War, and through the GI Bill educated himself in air-conditioning. He started his own A/C business Pamaco Inc. in 1958 where he worked until last year; for over 50 years. Through his will and tenacity he built a company that thrives until this day. He was also one of the founding members of the Dallas Holocaust Museum. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Rosa, by two sons, Mark & Gary, Gary’s wife, Valeria and 3 grandchildren, Lucas, Julia and Ethan. He will be remembered as a generous, kind and thoughtful man who had a positive impact upon whomever he touched. He was a quiet leader who led by example, and he had the most endearing since of humor. He will be sorely missed by his family and the community at large. He was a great man, and we cherish the memories of his life with us. Funeral services will be at 10a.m., Wednesday, March 30, 2011 at Congregation Shearith Israel, 9401 Douglas Ave. Dallas, TX 75225. Rabbi David M. Glickman will officiate. Burial will follow at Shearith Israel Cemetery, 4634 Dolphin Rd., Dallas, TX. His family request donations in his honor be made to the Dallas Holocaust Museum, 211 North Record Suite 100, Dallas, TX 75201.

Don and I are both so sad to learn of the passing of Mr. B. We really enjoyed being a part of his life. He and Rose, Mark and Gary treated us like family each time we came to Dallas to visit my Grandmother, Lou Doty. Mr. B was such a caring person who really made his mark while on this earth. I can still hear his voice with an up beat attitude. Mr. B will be missed. Hold the memories you have close to your heart, with sympathy

Osi, I miss our occassional lunches with Eddie and most of all I missed your quiet way of smiling while taking our old poker gang with those hands that made us call you "The King of the Lows". You will always have a special place in my heart right along with George, with whom I know you are telling stories of our days with Carlo, Arthur , Harry & the rest of the "Gang". God bless you my friend. Richard Ferrara
