Col. Guarrnero, “PoPo”, was born February 16, 1917, in Del Rio, Texas, to the late Salome and Barbara Guarnero. He graduated from Brownwood High School and attended Howard Payne College. He enlisted in the Army Air Force in 1941 and served for four years. He then returned to Howard Payne and graduated in 1946. Col. Guarrnero served 21 years with the Air Force and 17 years with Buckner Baptist Benevolences. He was a long time member and Deacon of East Grand Baptist Church in Dallas.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Napoleon.
He is survived by his wife, Maria del Socorro Guarrnero; sister, Naomi Cadell and husband Murrell; daughters: Barbara Gardea and husband Omar, and Aurora Hernandez and husband Ruben; grandchildren: Lisa Esquivel and husband Raul, Robert Hernandez and wife Megan, Abraham Hernandez, and Omar Gardea Jr.; great grandchildren: Sara Esquivel, Lora Trevizo and husband Travis, Nora, Carter, Sam, Abigail, and William; and great-great granddaughter, Johana.
Memorial services will be held at 7 pm on Monday, March 12, 2012, at Grove Hill Funeral Home’s Chapel. Burial, with full military honors, will take place at 9:30 am on Tuesday, March 13, 2012, at DFW National Cemetery.
