Patsy Weir Moore

Patsy Weir Moore, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and second-generation family member of Weir’s Furniture, passed away at her home in Dallas, Texas on Saturday, July 15, 2023, at the age of 90. She was a devoted and resolute woman who loved the Lord and her family.

On May 11, 1933, Patsy Sue Weir was born in Fort Worth, Texas to J. Ray and Bea Daniel Weir. When Patsy was 14 years old, their family moved to Dallas where her parents founded Weir’s Furniture, a modest twenty-foot-by-seventy-foot store on Knox Street. Patsy and her younger brother Dan grew up alongside the business and were greatly shaped by their parents’ example of faithful stewardship, gracious hospitality, and thoughtful customer service.

Patsy graduated Woodrow Wilson High School in 1951, where she was an accomplished tennis player. Her junior year, Patsy was the state runner-up in women’s singles, and as a senior, she clinched the Women’s Singles State Championship title. Patsy continued to play tennis competitively for years to come. She attended college at Baylor University, where she earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in social work in 1955, and where she met her future husband, James Moore.

Patsy and Jim were married thirty-two years, and together, they welcomed four children, Julie Ann, John Mark, Amy Sue, and Todd Andrew. As her children grew older, Patsy became more involved at Weir’s, serving as the lamp and accessories buyer. She shared her father’s love of art and was instrumental in bringing Thomas Kinkade Galleries to Weir’s in the late 1990s. As a consummate hostess, Patsy ensured that the art galleries were complete with fresh flowers and tasty refreshments to welcome guests each Saturday. Even in her retirement, Patsy remained a frequent visitor to the stores, taking keen interest in the associates and customers alike.

Patsy’s life was shaped from the words of her favorite scripture, Proverbs 3:5-6, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

Her love of God and His Word was expressed through her daily Bible reading and marked her life with constancy and steadfastness. As a member of Park Cities Baptist Church, Patsy enjoyed times of sweet fellowship with the Margaret Arnold Class.

Patsy’s admiration of God’s glorious creation resulted in her lifelong enjoyment of spending time outdoors. Patsy appreciated the uniqueness of every season and delighted in the beauty of flowers, trees, mountains, clouds, and water. She created and maintained lovely landscapes wherever she went.

As “Granna” to her eight grandchildren, Patsy was intentional about creating traditions that would form memories with her family. Her gift of hospitality was evident as she gathered everyone around a beautifully set table. Patsy delighted in time spent together, especially summer vacations enjoyed in Carmel, California. There she enjoyed sharing tea with all of her girls at the Tuck Box, taking walks on the beach with her Westie Baxter, and watching the sunset from her favorite tree on Carmel Point. She leaves a strong and lasting legacy.

Patsy is preceded in death by her parents J. Ray and Bea Weir, daughter Julie Ann Moore, and brother Daniel Ray Weir.

Patsy is survived by her children: son Mark Moore (D’Ann) of Dallas, daughter Amy Fullerton (Bill) of Dallas, and son Todd Moore (Kristin) of Raleigh, North Carolina; her eight grandchildren: Benjamin Moore (Trang Pham) of Frisco, Texas, Matthew Moore (Tara Nash) of Colorado, Katie Fullerton O’Laughlin (Sean) of Dallas, Megan Fullerton Robinson (John) of Dallas, Will Fullerton (Meg) of Dallas, Sarah Beth Ennis (Tucker) of Raleigh, Mary Grace Keel (Benjamin) of Raleigh, Drew Moore of Raleigh; six great-grandchildren: Emmaline Moore, James Robinson, Isla Ennis, Brooks Ennis, Knox Keel, and Harper Keel; former husband Jim Moore; sister-in-law Martha Weir; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The Moore and Fullerton families would like to extend special gratitude and love to Carolyn Rowlett, who provided faithful and loving care for over 25 years. She forever will be a treasured friend and member of our family.

We are also thankful for the caregivers of Mom’s Home Health and Three Oaks Hospice for their concern and support for Patsy and for our family. We have been touched by the kindness and prayers of our family and friends.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, July 20 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at Sparkman/Hillcrest Funeral Home (7405 West Northwest Highway, Dallas). Following a private graveside service, a public memorial service to celebrate the life of Patsy Weir Moore well be held at Park Cities Baptist Church (3933 Northwest Parkway, Dallas) on Friday, July 21 at 10 a.m. with Dr. Jack Martin officiating. A reception will follow in Ellis Parlor.
