

Patsy Ruth (Vaughan) Pike, age 87, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 10th a little after 2pm, surrounded by her family, following complications from surgery. Patsy was born May 21st, 1927 to Virgil V. and Mary Gladys (Fuller) Vaughan. She is preceded in death by her parents Mr. and Mrs. Virgil V. Vaughan, her husband, Dr. Walter L. Pike, her daughter, Pamela Ruth Pike, her sister JoAnn Minshew, and her nephew, Mark Allen Minshew. She is survived by her daughters, Leigh Ann Pike and Meredith Pike; granddaughters, Tabitha Leigh Pike and Stella Renay Bentley; brother-in-law Charles Minshew, brother and sister-in-law Mr. and Mrs. Virgil V. Vaughan, Jr. (Buddy and Sherry); sister and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Neil Pennal (Neil and Mariella) along with many beloved in-laws, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and dear friends. After earning her Master’s Degree from Baylor University, Patsy spent much of her career as an educator. She taught at Longview High School and Kilgore College where she met her husband, Dr. Walter L. Pike. They married in 1965 and moved to Miami, FL briefly then returned to live in the Kessler Park area of Dallas, TX. Patsy was active in her church, Kessler Park United Methodist, while raising her daughters, teaching Sunday school and going to Women’s Circle. She loved to throw parties and try out new recipes on unsuspecting party goers and family members. She spent the remainder of her career as a Business Professor at Mountain View College. Patsy was also an adventurer. She spent many summers in her 20’s driving to New York to work at a hotel for the season. She sailed to England on the Queen Mary II. She planned countless family vacations allowing her daughters and family to experience many of the great cities of America and Canada including New York, Seattle, Washington D.C., San Diego, Los Angeles, Hawaii, Quebec, Montreal and many others. She continued to travel with friends and family after her retirement and took a wonderful trip to Italy a few years ago. She appreciated all life had to offer and encouraged others to do the same. Visitation will be held at Sparkman-Hillcrest Funeral Home, Dallas, Wednesday, October 15th from 6-8pm. Funeral services will be held at Custer Road United Methodist Church in the chapel at 11am, October 16th. Following the funeral the processional will go to Sparkman-Hillcrest for a brief graveside service immediately followed by a reception in the main building at Sparkman-Hillcrest with food, drinks.
