Pat was born to Doris Mae Cummings and William Art Hammons. She grew up in Oak Cliff and went to Forest Ave. High School. Pat was a talented drum major in the high school band. She loved the baton!
Pat loved dancing and won many trophy's in push dancing competitions. She taught Tammy and her friends the art of swing dancing. Turning and twirling, and tossing them up in the air. She loved the dance floor and her dance stories started out with Name. Quality of dancer. Then the story about the person. Your last name was replaced with how well you could dance.
She married Henry Fate Knott in 1952. In 1958 Tammy Knott was born. She married Carl Thomas Stone in 1966. In 1967 Chris Stone was born.
Pat was very involved in Carl's drag racing career. The Rolling Stone race car entourage traveled to races, and Pat and Chris were there. Pat supported everyone from the crew to her husband and the racing community.
Pat had many career adventures, she worked in downtown Dallas at an optical lab. She worked at H & R Block for years preparing taxes. She worked in her and Carl's Plumbing business taking care of all the books and running the company. She did home warranty customer service at Sears and retired from Sears.
Pat became a member of the Auxiliary to the Elks Lodge #2404 Mesquite TX in 2007. She was a 2 term President in 2018-2019 and also served as Treasurer. She was very active in the children's holiday parties and made many friends there.
She met Pete Diehl at the Elks Lodge. They were married in 2011.
Contribution by Judy Lee: Pete was a Shriner and in the Legion of Honor. Pat joined the Daughters of the Nile, Shalman Temple #90 on 9/30/2011. She joined the Clownette Unit right away. Pat joined the ladies group, the Legionettes. She was President of the Legionettes when Pete was the Commander of the Legion of Honor.
We clowned up for the Shriners when they had their Circus. We had so much fun interacting with the kids. We also sold programs and coloring books. We visited the Shriners Children's burn hospital in Galveston several times and took things down for the kids and played games with them. She was also in my Red Hats club. We enjoyed going to a different Restaurant every month and telling people who we were. Thank you Judy
Pat was a huge Rangers fan. Her and Pete loved watching the games and discussing the players and everything Rangers. Her and Pete loved doing just about anything as long as it was together. They enjoyed going. They made each other very happy in the short almost 10 years they were married.
Pat had just turned 88 in June and had never had any major health issues until the last 4 years. She was a very strong woman that would do whatever it took to survive. She was sharp in her mind and we witnessed her rally back from her health setbacks only to come back stronger than before in her determination. This year, she discussed with Tammy and Chris what a good long life she had lived and that she had experienced more than her share of laughs and loves. What more could you ask? Rest in Peace and run free, Patsy Ruth.
A memorial service for Pat will be held Sunday, August 17, 2025 at 1:00 PM at Grove Hill Funeral Home & Memorial Park, 3920 Samuell Blvd, Dallas, Texas 75228.
