Paul Fletcher Moore, Jr. was born on October 20, 1939 in Troy, Texas, to Paul Fletcher Moore, Sr. & Mary Elizabeth Knowles. He was the eldest of three children. His brothers are Randy & Douglas. He graduated from Temple High School, then later attended Kansas Air Trade School in Kansas City.
Paul married his high school sweetheart, Sammie Jean (Brewster) on May 6, 1961, and together they raised their son, Kevin Moore. He also served in the U.S. National Guard through the Berlin Crisis, stationed out of Ft. Polk, Louisiana. In order to provide for his family, Paul worked for Braniff airlines for 20 years. He was always one to plan ahead and be organized. Through his planning, he didn’t retire “from” Braniff, but “he retired ‘to’ his second career” in real estate. He was a natural leader who provided a wonderful example of a good person and manager to his colleagues. “Lead, follow, or get out of the way,” he’d say. He will be missed dearly.
Paul was very intelligent. He enjoyed reading the newspapers, magazines, all kinds of books. He especially enjoyed reading books on science fiction, mysteries and biographies. He listened to talk shows on the radio and liked to listen to jazz music, as well as the Eagles, and Willer R, while tinkering with electronics, computers and model cars and planes. He and his brothers enjoyed going to classic car shows, and as children, had fun digging up arrowheads at Lake Belton. He was a generous and kind man, he was a bookkeeper for the church and would assist the elderly with their filing their taxes. Whenever Irish fest came around, Paul was there to volunteer. During the Texas State Fair, he managed a building; assisting with shipments & deliveries. He was great at problem solving and troubleshooting. He was a great mediator, as he could always see both sides of the issue. Paul taught Sammie to speak publicly, as she was very shy; she taught him to listen. Paul was proud of Sammie for her ability to try things out of her comfort zone, and succeed! Paul left those who knew him with many memories and “Paul-isms”. One of which will stick with many, “there’s no honor among thieves.”
Paul loved to travel with his family. He loved being at White Rock Lake, the beaches of St. Bay & Monterrey, where he could be one with nature. Paul was soft spoken, thoughtful,mild-mannered, polite and treated all like he thought we should treat one another, with dignity and respect. Beloved husband to Sammie and loving father to his son, Kevin, they will always carry him in their hearts.
“…Faith, hope, Love. remain these three; but the greatest of these is Love.” ~ Corinthians 1:13
On Wednesday, January 20, 2016, our mighty God, so merciful, called Paul home. He has gone to his reward in Heaven, free of pain and suffering. He was greeted in Heaven by his parents, Paul Moore, Sr. & Mary Elizabeth Moore and other relatives.
His life and legacy will continue to be honored and celebrated by his wife, Sammie Moore of 55 years; their son, Kevin Moore; his brother Randy & Douglas Moore, and many more nieces, nephews, over 50 cousins (who host an annual reunion); and other relatives and close friends.
In memory of Paul, we leave you with this, Psalm 23.
The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the Lord forever.
In honor of Paul's final wishes, there will not be a memorial, as he would like you to remember him as he was.
In lieu of flowers, the Moore family would like you to consider making a donation to the charity of your choice in Paul's name.
Some of the Moore family's favorite charities are Wounded Warriors Project & Wildlife Foundation, should you want to donate on behalf of Paul.
