Paul Wacher, beloved husband, father and grandfather, passed away after a long illness on September 26, 2022. Paul was born on December 10, 1936, in Bronx, New York, and graduated from the prestigious Bronx High School of Science, where he excelled academically, and helped bring the school its first athletic championship in handball. Paul's devotion to family led to the rejection of opportunities to attend distinguished universities far from home, instead choosing The City College of New York, at the time considered a "poor man's Harvard". Upon graduation, he began a distinguished career in chemistry, in which he earned four patents, first for developing a light filter for televisions while working for GTE in 1970, and the others for later work as a paper chemist.
Paul was a devoted father, working tirelessly to support his children's educational and athletic endeavors, ensuring that they never lacked for anything that would assist them in their efforts. He later reflected that his fondest memories were the wonderful and simple days spent coaching his sons in the backyard and little league baseball fields of Paramus, NJ and Plano, TX. He was a lifelong New York Yankees fan, and rarely missed a game, even spending the last night that could be enjoyed watching them play the Boston Red Sox with his sons at the bedside. His diverse interests included a love of classical music, and the ability to identify a piece even better than his daughter, Robyn, an accomplished violinist. Yet, above all, he dearly loved his wife, Iris, with whom he shared a wonderful marriage of nearly 55 years. Though his heart was shattered when she passed away in July 2020, we find comfort in knowing that they are reunited, and he is once again at peace.
Paul is predeceased by his parents, Harry L. Wacher and Martha Tropp. He is survived by his son, Harris L. Wacher, of Dallas, TX, son, Adam J. Wacher, MD, of Friendswood, TX, daughter, Robyn B. Zudekoff, husband Roger Zudekoff and granddaughter, Madelyn Zudekoff, all of Allen, TX, sister, Diane Posner of Sun City, FL and numerous nephews and cousins. He was laid to rest beside his beloved wife, Iris, in the Garden of Abraham at Sparkman/Hillcrest cemetery, on September 30, 2022.
