Pedro and his beloved wife, Amelia, shared 60 beautiful years of marriage, built on devotion, resilience, and unwavering love. He spent 18 years living in the Weslaco area before planting deeper roots and spending the remainder of his life in the DFW area, where he continued to be surrounded by family.
Pedro had an unwavering devotion to his family. He was a proud father of five Anna Maria Mata, Adalia Villaseñor, Irma Lopez, Israel Lopez, and Pedro Lopez Jr. Becoming a young grandfather, lovingly known as Dad, was one of the greatest joys of his life. Nothing made him happier than being surrounded by those he loved.
Pedro worked for many years as a foreman at Foam Packaging, where he eventually retired. Outside of work, he was known as “El Gallo” to his kids and grandkids. He cherished simple pleasures; weekend cookouts, beers, good conversation, music, and gathering with family. He enjoyed visiting his roots in the Valley and spending time fishing.
After retiring, he continued to embrace adventure. He would hop on a plane to Los Angeles, enjoy a cold one at Universal Studios while the kids rode the attractions, and even let his grandchildren convince him to take a five-day cruise along the Gulf Coast.
Pedro was preceded in death by his parents, Pablo and Aurora Lopez; his siblings Marcela Blanco, Gregorio Lopez, Martin Lopez, and Lionel Lopez; his son-in-law Agustin Villaseñor; daughter-in-law Sherrie Lopez; and his great-grandson Zoro Gomez.
He is survived by his loving wife, Amelia Lopez; his children Anna, Adalia, Irma, Israel, and Pedro; his sons-in-law Sergio Mata and Jose Cervantes Sr.; his daughter-in-law Nora Lopez; his 14 grandchildren Cindy, Cathy, Jose Isabel, Christopher, Pedro Jordan, Beatriz, Christina, Agustin, Rosa Lena, Sergio, Pedro, Adrien, Benjamin, and Alice—and their spouses; 17 great-grandchildren and growing; as well as numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family who adored him.
We were truly blessed to have Pedro in our lives. We are profoundly grateful for the 80 wonderful years we were able to share with him. His legacy of love, humor, and family will continue to live on in all of us.
